For hundreds of years chapels have been the places in which the followers of Jesus have met as family week in week out to share their joys and sorrows.
As time goes by many of these chapels are closing and being replaced by different ways of spending Sundays. Chapel Sounds is all about retelling the stories and honouring these sacred spaces that have been a living part of the lives of so many over the past several hundred years.
Over the centuries the followers of Jesus have found different ways of sharing the gospel which means the good news that no matter who you are - you are loved by God - and that this love knows no pre-conditions it is totally unconditional.
Chapel Sounds is a fresh way of sharing these stories further whilst also celebrating our heritage. Steve Bagshaw has been storytelling for the best part of 40 years around the chapels and churches of Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. Chapel Sounds is dedicated to telling stories with unexpected heroes, with unconditional welcomes and saluting those that show up and make a difference.
We are delighted to have you with us... ...enjoy.
Chapel Sounds brings to life the stories told by the followers of Jesus - follow the link at the top of the page to our stories
So many of the older stories told in our chapels are the same stories that Jesus was familiar with and that are still told in the Jewish and Islamic traditions.
They are part of the bedrock that the followers of Jesus have dipped in to over the years and are retold here by Steve to bring them to life as relevant today as when they were first told two to three thousand years ago.
The gospel writers captured their good news stories decades after Jesus. They brought together the material that was being told in their communities and wrote their versions of Jesus - his life, death and resurrection.
At Chapel Sounds Steve takes these gospel stories that have been familiar to church and chapel-goers over the ages and retells them in his own way - connecting the listener today with the centuries old world of Jesus.
For over two thousand years men and women have been reflecting as followers of Jesus on the stories contained in the shared and standalone scriptures of Judaism, Islam and Christianity. In many cases they have retold stories or created new ones to bring to life the essence of what it means in their current times to lead meaningful lives. At Chapel Sounds Steve adds his own stories as well as retelling those of others to bring to life what it means to be a follower of Jesus today.
Steve has been listening to stories since before he can remember and telling them for almost just as long. His love of bible stories and their retelling has gone hand in hand with being a Methodist Lay Preacher for over 30 years. He lives in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and when not telling stories or working (a little) he can be found hiking, biking, kayaking and occasionally running around there and the Lake District.
